Since the mid – nineties our lives changed forever. It was the beginning of the internet era, a revolution in the world of global communication. The storm created whole new jobs, innovative businesses, alongside with a dream: work from home.
Work from home is an hot topic, everybody talk about it and the most part of people dream, a day, to be able to wake up in the morning and simply turn on a laptop. No car, no traffic jam, no suite to wear. Freedom.
Is this true? Yes and not, but let’s find out some ways the goal of working from home can be accomplished.
1. Work a traditional job from home
A traditional office job can be worked in the peace of your house. You just need a broadband connection, a computer and perhaps a multifunction printer. More sophistication would ask for a webcam for video conferencing. This can easily be done, and many already experimented it. If you work in IT or some branches of engineering or for example accounting, you can already find some “at home positions”.
2. If you are a professional
If you work as an Architect, Engineer, Lawyer, Consultant and many other similar positions, you can organize a room at home where you can work. This is an already quite popular practice.
3. If you are a writer or a free-lance
These are categories where working at home has been adopted since many years. You are independent and your concentration must be preserved. Working from home is the rule, not the exception.
4. You can start an home business
Usually these activities are worked from home, for many reasons. First, a business from home is usually a family business where the employees are family members. Secondly, working from home would enormously cut many costs. Many small companies are running in this way.
5. Internet business
Here we are. This is the most popular wannabe attracting home based job of the third millennium. Lots of online courses and software promise six zero profit in less than one year. Of course it’s not true, but so many people get enchanted by this life dream that they will start a website or a blog dreaming millions in revenue. This is possible, but after years of hard work and sacrifice, and is not supposed to be a solid mean of income for a long period. Don’t think you can substitute your job with an online income overnight. However, you can plan an online business selling goods and services. You must invest some money in marketing, web design, write content. An internet business must be carefully planned and possibly done part-time until it will generate a targeted income. Don’t run too fast.
These are five amongst the many possibilities to work from home. As you see, many people already can claim to be able to work from the tranquillity of their house. Many others are still dreaming to quit their office job, while some enjoy to be out chatting by the water cooler.

My house is quiet. I do not have to worry about my canine children. I can eat lunch according to what I feel at that moment and not the previous evening. And yet no Public Service will trust me for properly doing my work at home rather in their environment that has all these negative effects on my work. Wish we had enough private patients to forget everything and stay home for work!

“tranquility of my house”? My house looks like your cg illustration to this post; papers everywhere. Boxes and books and a desk not well used. I work from home now under your category 1 and 4; but it’s not tranquil! Many women fall for the work at home ploy that many network marketing businesses seem to offer. But when you’re a mom to several children, working out of the home is very challenging. Once quiet infants will grow up and demand your every second of time. Remember, moms, that you’ll still need a babysitter or daycare if you’re working from home!
I work from home. I have no choice in the matter. I have however come to enjoy the experience. I make much less income than if I was to go out everyday to expand my business but since I cannot, I have accepted a lower level of income but time to do what I must and to enjoy it. It is possible.
Good advice, and I should know–I work at home. I have telecommuted for ten years and it’s wonderful! Work your own hours, very short commute, and peace and quiet.

Work at home by using computer technology be more likely to developed countries, but became the dream in the third country where internet connection is still scarce.
